This year, the Industry Terminal Summit and Spring product launch event will be hosted by ZTE on April 12th, and the star of the show will be their new offering, the new Axon 50 Ultra smartphone.
Unlike the previous year’s Axon 40 Ultra, which showed the company’s capability of working with under-display camera technology, the forthcoming smartphone will have a conventional selfie camera positioned in a punch-hole cutout. But the feature that will make it different will be the new trend that is picking up the pace in the smartphone industry i.e Satellite Connectivity, will be featured in the phone.
The Axon 50 Ultra will initially be launched in China, with the keynote event scheduled for April 12 at 13:30 CST. It is being marketed as the first secure 5G smartphone with SATCOM support, featuring editable BeiDou satellite communication messages. Users will be able to send messages and location information to others, even when there is no ground network signal coverage.
Satellite communication was first introduced as a feature by Huawei Mate 50 series in September, making it a relatively new technology. Shortly after, Apple also introduced the same feature in its latest iPhone 14 Pro models. Although rumors suggested that Samsung would follow this trend but the Korean company decided to skip the trend, stating that it would wait for the technology to mature.
As for the ZTE smartphone, it is expected to have Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC under the hood. The handset will feature a center punch hole cutout for the selfie shooter, and its display will be curved with sharp corners. The teaser image also reveals that the volume and power buttons will be placed on the right edge, leaving the left side of the smartphone empty.
