Key roads in Delhi have been in flood like situation as water from the Yamuna River has overflowed onto them.

On Thursday, the Delhi government has banned the entry of heavy goods vehicles from four borders including Singhu, Badarpur, Loni and Chilla borders as a precautionary measure in view of the rising Yamuna levels. The move has been taken to ensure the safety of people and vehicles.

The water level of Yamuna River has been rising since Wednesday and now it breaks an all-time high mark in more than 45 years i.e., 208.46 meters from 207.49 meters. As a result, water has overrun several low-lying areas and roads.

In a tweet the Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said that “Interstate buses coming from Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Uttarakhand will stop at Singhu border instead of going to ISBT Kashmiri Gate”.

However, there is no restriction on vehicles carrying essential services such as food and petroleum products.

According to authorities, more than 16,000 people from low-lying areas has been shifted to relief tents pitched under flyovers.

Rescue operations are ongoing and disaster relief teams have been deployed in the flooded areas.

Also, all government and private schools were being closed in areas where the chances of flood are high, said CM Kejriwal.

Moreover, the CM urged all officials and MLAs to visit relief camps and provide all possible support.

The state’s governor and CM met Delhi Disaster Management in order to discuss and take necessary steps in this flood situation.
