India Sends relief material and medical aid to earthquake hit turkey and syria under Operation "DOST"

After the destruction caused by the two earthquakes that shocked the two countries, Turkey and Syria on 6th February 2023, resulting in massive destruction and numerous lives loss, many countries rushed to provide aid and relief supplies to the affected areas. Nearly 30 countries around the world scrambled to offer condolences and humanitarian aid to the devastated nations. Many countries sending their rescue workers to Turkey and Syria to speed up the rescue operation.

Here’s the list of countries offering aid to Turkey and Syria after earthquake-

INDIA

India dispatched the first batch of relief material to turkey and Syria, also NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) teams with 100 personnel and specially trained canine squads has been sent to help with rescue efforts under Operation Dost. The Prime minister’s office said “that Indian government has been coordination with the Turkish Authorities and is ready to send immediate high-level help”.

RUSSIA

Russia has already sent 10 units of Russian military comprising 300 people to help clear debris and search for survivors in Turkey. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he flown two Ilyushin-76 aircraft with rescuers and relief supplies to the border of Turkey and requested both Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey and Bashar al-Assad of Syria to accept the offer.

UKRAINE

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also stepped forward to help Turkey and Syria. Zelenskyy wrote on Twitter: “I express my sincere condolences to President Erdogan, the Turkish people, and the families of the victims of the earthquake in the southeast of Turkey”.

ISRAEL

The newly elected Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered to immediately dispatched medical supplies and search-and-rescue support. Israeli foreign minister Eli Cohen announced an aid programme for Turkey. A search and rescue team of 150 engineers, medical personnel and other aid workers has been sent to Tukey.

USA

Nearly 100 Los Angeles County firefighters and structural engineers, along with six trained dogs and a team of 79 personnel has been sent to assist Turkey according to White House.

UK

According to Britain foreign ministry, Britain will send 76 searchers and rescue personnel, four search dogs and rescue equipment to Turkey. James Cleverly, the foreign secretary of UK issued a statement: “We stand ready to provide Further support if needed.”

GERMANY

The German Interior Minister, Nancy Faeser said “federal civil protection agency will dispatch emergency shelters, tents and blankets along with water treatment units among other relief supplies that will include the generators to calamity- stricken Turkey.”

POLAND

Poland also sent rescue group HUSAR with a team of 76 firemen and eight rescue dogs to turkey.

TAIWAN

Taiwan sent four to five tones of aid along with 40 rescuers from its fire department and three search and rescue dogs to assist Turkey.

AUSTRIA

Austria sent 84 soldiers from a military disaster relief unit to turkey.

GREECE

Greece sent 21 rescuers, two search-and-rescue dogs, a special rescue vehicle together with a structural engineer, five doctors and seismic planning experts in a military transport plane.

JAPAN

Japan sent a group of 75 rescue workers to Turkey.

SOUTH KOREA

South Korea dispatches a 60-person search and rescue team along with medical supplies to Turkey.

WHO (WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION)

The World Health Organization Chief, Tedros Ghebreyesus has ordered emergency medical teams to head to Turkey. The Chief noted that WHO is ready to provide health care to those injured.

Apart from the above mentioned, many other countries are willing to help and provide their resources in order to help both of these nations to pass through this phase of chaos and re-build themselves.
