Lip balm is a soft wax-like substance you apply to saturate and ease the pain/irritation caused by having dry lips.

Making your own DIY lip balm can be a fun and exciting project. Here are the ingredients, equipments and steps that you can use to make your own customized lip balm:

INGREDIENTS REQUIRED:

  • 2 tablespoons beeswax pellets or grated beeswax
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon shea butter
  • A few drops of your favourite essential oil (such as peppermint or lavender) for scent

EQUIPMENTS REQUIRED:

  • Heat-safe container or double boiler
  • Stirring utensil (e.g., spoon or wooden stick)
  • Lip balm containers (empty lip balm tubes or small tins)

RECIPE FOR MAKING DIY LIP BALM:

STEP 1: Prepare your work area and gather all ingredients:

The very first step for making a DIY lip balm is to gather all the required ingredients, including beeswax pellets or grated beeswax, coconut oil, shea butter, and any optional essential oils for scent. Get your heat-safe container or double boiler, stirring utensil, and lip balm containers ready. Also clean your workspace before moving ahead.

STEP 2: Melt all the ingredients:

Now add beeswax, coconut oil and shea butter in a heat safe container and place the container over low to medium flame, allowing the ingredients to melt gradually.

STEP 3: Stir the mixture:

Stir the mixture until the ingredients melted properly. Continue to stir gently to ensure they blend together smoothly and no lumps or solid bits remains.

STEP 4: Add essential oils for scent:

Adding essential oils and scents is completely an optional step. If you want to add a pleasant smell and colour to your lip balm then you can include few drops of your preferred essential oils. After adding essential oils stir the mixture gently until the scent distributed completely throughout the mixture.

STEP 5: Pour the liquid in lip balm container:

Carefully pour the mixture into a lip balm container. You can use a dropper also. Don’t overflow the lip balm container, leave a small gap to allow the lip balm to solidify.

STEP 6: Allow the liquid to solidify:

Once you poured the liquid in the container, allow the liquid to solidify and leave it undisturbed. This mixture typically takes 20-30 minutes to solidify completely. Avoid moving or touching the liquid during this time to prevent uneven texture of your lip balm. Once the lip balm solidify completely, apply lid to the container in order to secure the lip balm.

Note: Your homemade DIY lip balm is ready to use, now apply it to moisturize your lips. Store it in a cool and dry place to maintain its quality. If stored properly you can use it for several months.
