As of 2023, India’s passport ranking has shown significant progress, improving from 87 in 2022 to a commendable 80.
This positive development now grants Indian passport holders visa-free access to an impressive number of 57 countries, as reported.
The latest Henley Passport Index reveals that Singapore has overtaken Japan as the possessor of the world’s most powerful passport. Singaporeans can now enjoy visa-free entry to an astounding 192 destinations worldwide.
India now proudly holds the 80th spot on the passport ranking, sharing this position with Senegal and Togo.
Remarkably, Germany, Italy, and Spain have surged to claim the 2nd place, offering their passport holders visa-free access to an impressive 190 destinations. Additionally, Japanese passport holders have joined an exclusive group of nations, including Austria, Finland, France, Luxembourg, South Korea, and Sweden, in securing the 3rd place with unrestricted access to 189 destinations without the need for a prior visa.
The Henley Passport Index rankings rely on the number of destinations accessible to passport holders without the requirement of a prior visa, primarily drawing from data provided by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
According to the report, India’s neighbouring country Pakistan holds the unfortunate distinction of having the fourth-worst passport globally, with visa-free access granted to just 33 countries.
There are four countries with a score of zero, meaning that passports from these nations do not allow any visa-free access to any destination. These countries include Afghanistan, North Korea, Papua New Guinea, and Turkmenistan.
