On 18th July, 2023 a decision was made by the UT administration that in the upcoming first meeting of the Unified Metro Transportation Authority (UMTA), it will grant approval for the comprehensive mobility plan (CMP) for Chandigarh Tricity. This significant development will set the stage for further actions to be taken for the Chandigarh’s metro project.
The Tricity Metro, which is the proposed metro transit system for the capital city of Haryana and Punjab, is moving closer to its commencement. After 14 years since its proposal, the metro project is advancing towards implementation.
The metro development work will be initiated in phases across three cities. In the first phase, Chandigarh city will receive a 34.5 km long metro line, while Mohali and Panchkula will be getting tracks measuring 26.5 km and 5 km, respectively. In Phase 2 the metro lines will be expanded by 24.5 km in Panchkula and 10.5 km in Mohali.
Various stakeholders from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal, and Chandigarh will attend the upcoming meeting. This presents the perfect opportunity to obtain their consent so that the next steps, including preparing a detailed project report (DPR) and alternative analysis report (AAR), can begin immediately.
